Charlie Giblin was my Uncle (once or twice removed) and a good friend. I remember as a teenager Charlie (my uncle,” the priest”) coming to our home and waterskiing with us. I remember Charlie performing the marriage ceremony for my husband and me 42 years ago. I remember attending his own wedding at my parents’ home, with an ironing board as the altar and only a few guests. I remember the tradition of many Christmas Eve’s together with Charlie and Julia at my parents’ home. I remember taking my oldest and Julia’s nieces from Spain to an amusement park many summers ago. I remember Charlie and Julia being there for my Mom when my Dad died, and in the years after. I remember Charlie and Julia being there for me and my family when my Mom died. I remember them coming to Massapequa and presiding over our family ceremony honoring my parents’ wishes for distribution of their ashes. And I remember Charlie and Julia being there for my family in the following years honoring their respect and love for my parents. I remember his despair at the loss of his best friend and true love. I remember wonderful talks with him of our past and our family tree. I remember his joy in seeing the pictures and hearing the stories of my own family growing—he thrilled at seeing the pictures of our three granddaughters and our grandson. Charlie was a very special person and he will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with all his family and friends.
