Biography

Lawrence L. Armstead Sr. a longtime resident of Monticello passed away on January 7, 2012 at Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 65.
The son of the late Johnnie Armstead & Ellenor Sledge Armstead, he was born September 10, 1946 in Fairhope, AL.
Lawrence was a retired mail clerk for Sullivan County Corrections in Woodbourne, NY. He was an avid golfer and basketball player, who loved being out on the course or watching the games.
He is survived by his wife, Marion Armstead at home; two sons, Lawrence Armstead Jr. (Sholonda) of Atlanta, GA and Andrew Armstead of Columbia, SC; a daughter, Jacqueline Armstead of Plainsboro, NJ; a brother, Leo Armstead (Annie) of Snellsville, GA; four sisters: Rosabell Fore, Evelyn Holland, Odessa Lewis and Olice Williams all of Monticello; five grandchildren: Erica Armstead, Tyshaun Chandler, Reginald Chandler Jr., Lawrence Armstead III and Jennifer Brabham; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by four brothers: Charlie, Johnnie Jr., Clarence and Leaton Armstead and a sister, Jean Warren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 13, 2012 from 7-9pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. His funeral service will be held Saturday morning at 2:00pm at the Bethlehem Temple Church, Fairground Road in Monticello. Bishop Mervin Armstead will officiate. Burial will follow at Rock Ridge Cemetery, Monticello.
