Obituary of Elizabeth Cauthers

Elizabeth Louise "Betty" Cauthers of Woodridge, a former teacher's aide at the Benjamin Cosor Elementary School in Fallsburg, died Saturday, April 14, 2018 at her daughter's home in Middletown, surrounded by her family. She was 90.

The daughter of the late Charles Milton Bryan and Katherine Morris Bryan, she was born May 12,1927 in Monticello. She was the widow of Hugh R. Cauthers Sr., with whom she shared 52 years of marriage.

Betty was always happy when she was surrounded by her family to celebrate in all of life's moments. Although her family was her greatest accomplishment, her wonderful garden was her pride and joy. Every year yielding a bumper crop of produce that was always shared with anyone who visited during the summer months. In winter months, she always had some of the vegetables preserved that would bring some of the summer treasures to the winter table. Betty would insist that any visitor enjoyed a good meal when coming to her home. Her home was a place of warm and comfortable to all that knew her and the beautiful flowers that surrounded her estate demonstrated her amazing green thumb. Betty's favorite time was when she had her grandchildren and great grandchildren around to play with and guide. She always remembered something special for each little one who came to visit.

Betty is survived by two children: Hugh R. Cauthers Jr. of Goshen, and Nancy Cauthers Rhinebeck of Middletown; four grandchildren: James Price, Hugh R. Cauthers III, Melissa Cauthers and Robert Rhinebeck; six great grandchildren: Dylan, Deston, Kaila, Georgana, Tristan, and Catalina; a brother: Charles Bryan & his wife Shirley of South Fallsburg; a sister-in-law: Marie Bryan of Wurtsboro; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son: Robert; a brother: John; and a daughter-in-law: Gail.

Family & friends are invited to gather on Wednesday, April 18 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 401 Broadway in Monticello. Her funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 19 at 11am at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 6317 State Route 42 in Woodbourne with Fr. John Lynch officiating.
