Obituary of James A. Lewis

James Alan “Jim” Lewis passed away unexpectedly at his home in Goshen on Wednesday, September 8, 2021.  He was 74.

The son of the late Richard Lewis and Jane Hamblin Lewis, he was born February 20, 1947 in Albany.

Jim graduated from Albany Academy and went on to Paul Smith’s College where he earned his Associates degree in Hotel Administration.  From there he went to Western New England College where he studied Business Administration, earning him a Bachelor’s degree.  Jim lived in Goshen for nearly 50 years starting his career as a manager of Rite Aid drug stores.  Later on, he started a business with his friend Howard selling janitorial products (Tri County Distributors).  For the past 16 years he has worked at his favorite job, Lowes in Chester.  Jim enjoyed bowling and golfing in his youth, and later, enjoyed going to the casinos.

He is survived by his two brothers and their families: David Lewis (Carol) of Virginia, and Edward Lewis (Luisa) of Massachusetts; and nieces and nephews: Kevin Lewis, Bryan Lewis, Cori Lewis-Ring, Brendan Lewis and Liliana Lewis. Jim had many loves in his lifetime.  He also leaves behind his loving daughter: Rose Woods (John); and five beautiful grandchildren: James, John Michael Jr., Sean, Celia and Benjamin.  He had too many friends to mention them all, but each of you impacted his life in a tremendous way.  He had the best neighbors anyone could ask for, especially the Lydon family.  We want to thank Kelli Clarke and James Calo.  We acknowledge your kindness.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 15 from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the VanInwegen-Kenny Funeral Home, 111 Sullivan Street in Wurtsboro.  Due to the current health crisis, social distancing guidelines must be met - a limited number of people at one time will be allowed in the funeral home, and facemasks are required.
